Lisa Milroy - Digital Portfolio

When I first opened up this portfolio I wasn't that impressed. I mean it is simple, very clean and well composed but its so bland to look at and generally boring.
But I found out once you dive into her work its actually a treat to wade through it and examine her art. she has a huge variety of different mediums that she uses ranging from charcoal drawings to watercolors, prints and even animation. Truly a very diverse and proficient artist.

Obviously the reoccuring theme to these digital portfolios are that even though seeing the work neatly organized like this is good, its nothing compared to seeing the work in the flesh; or canvas as it were. As I said though it is still good to see all the work in order with their corresponding information and dates.

John Bellany - Digital Portfolio

The portfolio opens up and welcomes the viewer to a great portrait of Bellany himself and a marvelous quote by him. "I paint from my very soul and I want to move people to get inside their hearts" A very nice introduction. The layout of the website itself is neat and controlled, with the necessary headings to the required information and work done by the artist.

As soon as you check out his gallery of work it's clear he was a great painter and that's what he was passionate about. By showing his biography and gallery it allows people to immerse them self in his life and art to try and understand how he approached life itself. This is one of the best reasons as to why people have online digital portfolios because of ease of access to this information.

Like I said there are advantages to having it online and digital like keeping everything organized and easy to access but it doesn't compare to seeing the work in real life. Seeing everything like the brush strokes in the painting to the smallest detail and the actual scale of the painting is a much better experience than viewing it online digitally.

Here are some photos I did with Siobhan for the Recycled materials assessment.

Richard Long - Digital Portfolio

When you open up this online portfolio you are greeted with a very simple menu with a couple examples of his work. The simplicity obviously makes it easier to navigate the portfolio and find what your looking for rather easy. The only downfall is that its not very interesting to look at and keep you drawn in. Very bland colors mixed with very bright colors need to be changed I think.

The purpose of this portfolio from what I've gathered is to show how he uses natural objects and the environment as important pieces in his work to show how he interprets things. It gives everyone else an insight into how he goes about walking through landscapes making art with natural resources. His favorite thing definitely seems to be sculpture.
The advantage of having this all online is that you can quickly navigate through everything with ease and read knowledge about them at the same time. But I don't think that is nearly as good as seeing the sculpture in real life. In person you can see it from every angle and inspect it a lot more closely than if you were doing it from a picture. Ultimately giving you a grander experience.

Bethany Pringle - Paper Portfolio

This artist was kind enough to show us her portfolio and how she managed to create it. She used this portfolio to apply for the second year of a foundation art and design diploma. It took her around a day to choose which pieces of art would be going into the portfolio and an afternoon to compose them and all the work has been chosen from the past 1 year.
The portfolio itself is neat and tidy with the work mounted on the A1 card but looks slightly rough around the edges which could be fixed with a bit more preparation.
Just like the other portfolio this ones has also been composed with every piece in mind when doing so. As like the other portfolio it has the same job which is trying to keep the viewer interested and curious while showing a diversity in their work at the same time. Starting off with a strong piece then fluctuating the intensity of feeling alongside the work and ending on a strong piece again to really leave them stunned.
I preferred seeing the portfolio in real life due to the fact that seeing it like that up close and just in general gives you such a better insight into the size, pencil/brushstrokes and any other detail that might otherwise remain unknown to somebody viewing it online.
The fact that she has took the time to organize all this herself shows the interviewers that she is prepared to work hard and organize her work to show all of her capabilities. Like I stated before she has a very diverse range of work to prove that she is no stranger to many methods or mediums. I think this is a very good portfolio which the interviewers will certainly take seriously.
