Maybe I should focus on drawing rather than painting. This is the first drawing I've done in months and it's still a lot better than any of my paintings.

first painting in months!

First Painting I've done in months and just as I've finally got settled into my new flat. Hoping to continue and buy some more canvas and try something with a bit more detail.

Not sure where the idea stemmed from but it was supposed to be of some kind of warrior, feeling the pain of all the sins and atrocities he may of committed in his life during battle. Or he could be on the brink of dying in battle.

Tried to capture an 'in the moment' kinda look, I started off using charcoal to sketch it out then went over in acrylics. Didnt turn out too badly! Also, hi Niall! (as I know you will be the only person to actually read this)

Van Gogh - Digital Portfolio

When you open this portfolio its slightly different to all the other digital portfolios. You can notice right to begin with that its a lot more focused on trying to show people ways to go see the artwork in person in a museum rather than showing the artwork right off the bat. But as soon as you open the menu at the side everything else becomes available to look at.

The purpose of this portfolio is advertise the museum in which all his work resides but to also show people his artwork digitally. Once you manage to get to his artwork you can see he did a wide variety of work like animals, portraits and a lot of self-portraits. Theirs even a biography to accompany it to try and show people how he lived and how it affected the thought process and evolution of his artwork.
Obviously the thing about online portfolios is that you can't see the work in proportion and other fine detail like brushstrokes and subtle marking. On the other hand you can see the entire variety of his work all organised, dated and described in detail. The thing about this site that I really liked is that they encourage you to come see the work in person because they think seeing it in real life is an experience which completely wipes out just looking at them on a website.

Lisa Milroy - Digital Portfolio

When I first opened up this portfolio I wasn't that impressed. I mean it is simple, very clean and well composed but its so bland to look at and generally boring.
But I found out once you dive into her work its actually a treat to wade through it and examine her art. she has a huge variety of different mediums that she uses ranging from charcoal drawings to watercolors, prints and even animation. Truly a very diverse and proficient artist.

Obviously the reoccuring theme to these digital portfolios are that even though seeing the work neatly organized like this is good, its nothing compared to seeing the work in the flesh; or canvas as it were. As I said though it is still good to see all the work in order with their corresponding information and dates.

John Bellany - Digital Portfolio

The portfolio opens up and welcomes the viewer to a great portrait of Bellany himself and a marvelous quote by him. "I paint from my very soul and I want to move people to get inside their hearts" A very nice introduction. The layout of the website itself is neat and controlled, with the necessary headings to the required information and work done by the artist.

As soon as you check out his gallery of work it's clear he was a great painter and that's what he was passionate about. By showing his biography and gallery it allows people to immerse them self in his life and art to try and understand how he approached life itself. This is one of the best reasons as to why people have online digital portfolios because of ease of access to this information.

Like I said there are advantages to having it online and digital like keeping everything organized and easy to access but it doesn't compare to seeing the work in real life. Seeing everything like the brush strokes in the painting to the smallest detail and the actual scale of the painting is a much better experience than viewing it online digitally.
